How CampusConnect UI protects student data.

This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and the choices you have when using our University of Ibadan student marketplace.

1. Overview

CampusConnect UI is a student-to-student marketplace for verified University of Ibadan students. We use personal information to provide marketplace features, verify eligibility, reduce fraud, improve safety, and communicate important account updates.

Plain summary: We collect only what is needed to run a safer campus marketplace and we do not sell your personal information.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: name, University of Ibadan email address, phone number, department, hall or location details, account password, and profile details.
  • Verification information: student email verification, optional student ID or hall verification information, and verification status.
  • Marketplace content: listings, item photos, descriptions, prices, category, condition, dates, reports, ratings, and transaction status.
  • Points and marketplace records: points balance, point transactions (credits, deductions), listing creation records, and related metadata used to manage listing eligibility and prevent abuse.
  • Usage and device information: IP address, browser, device type, pages visited, feature usage, timestamps, and error logs.
  • Communications: messages you send to support, reports submitted through the platform, and safety-related correspondence.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create accounts, authenticate users, and confirm student eligibility.
  • To display listings, support search, manage seller activity, and connect buyers and sellers.
  • To manage points balances, record point credits and deductions, enforce listing eligibility, and detect or prevent abusive posting behavior.
  • To detect suspicious behavior, prevent fraud, enforce platform rules, and respond to reports.
  • To send service messages such as security alerts, listing updates, report responses, and policy notices.
  • To improve platform performance, user experience, reliability, and safety features.

4. When We Share Information

Some profile and listing information is visible to other users so the marketplace can work. We may also share limited information with service providers who help us host, secure, analyze, or operate CampusConnect UI.

In serious cases involving fraud, threats, harassment, illegal activity, or safety concerns, we may share relevant information with appropriate University of Ibadan authorities or legal authorities where required.

5. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards such as access controls, secure authentication practices, protected servers, and monitoring. No online service is completely secure, so you should use a strong password, protect your device, and avoid sharing account credentials.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • You can review and update most profile information in your account.
  • You can request correction or deletion of your personal information where applicable.
  • You can report suspicious listings, users, or safety issues through the report page.
  • You may disable non-essential browser cookies, although some features may stop working properly.

7. Data Retention

We keep personal information while your account is active and as long as needed to provide services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms. Some records may be retained after account deletion where safety, legal, or accounting reasons require it.

Points balances, point transaction history, and listing creation records are retained as necessary to operate the marketplace, investigate disputes, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations. Retention periods are consistent with the reasons above.

Listing expiration: Listings are automatically hidden from public view 1 month after creation (as described in our Terms of Service). However, record of the listing (title, price, dates) may be kept for audit, dispute resolution, and fraud prevention purposes in line with our retention policy.

8. Third-Party Services

CampusConnect UI may link to external services such as WhatsApp, payment tools, email providers, or other websites. Those services have their own privacy practices, and you should review their policies before sharing information with them.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the platform changes. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the platform or by email where appropriate. The updated date above shows when this policy was last revised.
